For those not familiar with the inner details in decaffeination, there are basically two methods of chemical decaffeination - direct and indirect.
The direct method uses a chemical solvent (ie. methylene chloride or ethyl acetate) which DIRECTLY comes in contact with the beans.
In the indirect method, the pre-decaffeinated beans are soaked in water. The solution, containing both caffeine and flavor, is then pumped to another chamber where the chemical solvent resides. In essence, the solvent never comes in contact with the beans. (well at least theoretically, its more of a doluted contact if you asked me).
Question: On retail samples I've only seen the process used labeled on the label (eg. SWP, EA, MC, MWP), but never the method? Can anyone confirm on this? _________________ "Education is not so much the filling of a vessel, but the kindling of an eternal flame" |
